The survival of CRC, as with other types of cancer, heavy relies on the stage and time of the diagnosis – the earlier the time of detection, the higher the chance of successful treatment. In terms of stage, it is important to know how far the tumor has grown into the intestinal wall, and if they are any regional spreads to local lymph nodes, and whether they are further spreads elsewhere (metastases).

Oily fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines, sea bass, tilapia, eel) is the source of omega 3 fatty acids which exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. They also contain vitamin D which promotes cell differentiation, improves calcium absorption, decreases cancer cell growth, stimulates apoptosis and, last but not least, inhibits angiogenesis. It is recommended to eat 1-2 portions of oily fish per week. Some vegetable oils, nuts and seeds are also a significant source of omega 3 fatty acids (flaxseed oil and canola oil, walnuts, flaxseeds).
